Day 12: Home

Just know you’re not alone,
Cause I’m going to make this place your home.
–“Home” Phillip Phillips

There was a time in my life when I used to hate when a man would tell me, “oh I feel so comfortable with you–I can tell you anything!” It was the key indicator that I was, and would forever be, in the “friend zone.” It took some time and some maturity to see how much I actually wanted and, more importantly, needed a partner that I felt at home and comfortable with.

Home might be a place. Right now, my husband and I are about 1000 miles away from the place we consider home. But having been where we are for going on ten years, we have made this place home as well.

Home might also be a space as well. We have had three different living spaces in our time here. An apartment, a rental house, and our current house. Each building has our paw prints on it in some way or another. Memories–good and bad–that have shaped us as individuals and as a couple.

But at the end of the day, the eagerness we both feel to get “home” is not about a place or a space–it is about returning to each other. I was smiling as I wrote today about how much I enjoy the sense of home I share with my honey.
