The topic romance in our marriage reminds me of walking. When my husband and I were dating, one of our favorite things to do was just walk around. The early part of our relationship was long distance, so we often saw each other in cities that were new to one or both of us and would go exploring together.
I had planned to write about one of our romantic walks that turned into pure comedy when we may or may not have accidentally broken a chair just by sitting on it together (I might need to write that one down tomorrow). But then I started to think about all of our various romantic walks and found myself full of gratitude for my husband.
I am an introvert’s introvert. (I only perform as an extrovert when I teach.) A book, a blanket, and a cup of tea or coffee are about all I need to be thoroughly entertained. My husband, on the other hand, is a ball of energy and activity. I love that he channels that energy into exploring new places with me and is always thoughtful in finding events or things that I will enjoy. When we can’t get out or aren’t even in the same city, he finds ways to have date nights with me. I am grateful that we still are dating and enjoy the ways I have surprised and treated him over the years too.
But in just thinking about those walks this morning–many of which he led–I was just so thankful for my husband that my entry today turned into a prayer of gratitude for our romance!
